Maphead Productions Present: cinematonic

('The Tie', 1999)

The film-making arm of Maphead, cinematonic adheres to Maphead’s strict ‘Houyhnhnmist Manifesto of Film Making and Cinema Going’, in which honesty of process and the abandonment of barriers between artist and audience come to the fore.

Specialising in the semi-improvised and experimental, cinematonic’s conceptual approach has created a film style of accessible anarchy, that avoids the mainstream and embraces the modern, yet without alienating the viewer.

'The Tie' (1999) is a nervously humorous horror-life street movie; innocent lesbians are transformed into zombified conformists by a mind-controlled eccentric; only an unfortunate passer-by can stop him.

‘For Rent’ (2000) is a psychological black comedy exploring the strange goings-on in a house for rent, as seen through the played-out imaginations and opinions of five young women.

‘Route One’ (in production) is a multi-layered ensemble piece that, through a series of inter-connecting stories, shows the forming of one person’s identity as moulded by the actions of others.
