Maphead Productions Present: Ill-Fitting
Suits
Unique, peripatetic improvisational street art from Brighton-based Maphead Transmedia Live Art Band.

Featuring one or two performers, Ill-Fitting
Suits is tailor-made for each individual location, thereby creating original
one-off packages. Our approach is to perform a collection of actions over a
number of hours that build up a rapport with the audience and environment.
The Ill-Fitting Suits philosophy is
simple; by twisting seemingly normal activity into wry and witty interactions,
we highlight the thin line between the uneventful and the unexpected. By transferring
regular situations to different settings, we question the supposed ordinariness
of the everyday; magnifying the absurdity inherent in human behaviour.

These performances work with people and place through the very incongruities
of their presentations. They are involving without being confrontational; they
are conceptual without being aloof. They work at different levels of understanding,
but are never mere parody or attention-seeking stunts. There are works which
engage and involve, creating a participating dialogue between performer and
passer-by. Yet other, briefer performances are often best seen from the corner
of the eye, or in a fleeting moment; the periphery of awareness, as though witnessing
someone walk into a lamppost from a passing car.
Ill-Fitting Suits has been seen all over London and the South, commissioned by - amongst others - Brighton Festival, Guinness Promotions and the National Street Arts Festival.
It is difficult to describe improvisational works on paper. As an illustration, listed here are ten out of the some forty pieces performed at previous events.
